ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

After years of contracting the role, the City has approved the new position of City Engineer to serve as the department head over capital engineering and construction projects. The salary range for this position is up to $200,000 with placement in the range dependent on qualifications. The City provides a full benefit package, including CalPERS pension and up to 100% paid retiree health.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The City Engineer will oversee a talented and dedicated team of six staff. Under direction of the City Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the City's traffic engineering and construction management activities including developing and administering operating and capital budgets, as well as managing contracts for consulting services. The City Engineer actively collaborates with and supports the services of the City's Community Development Department.
The ideal candidate will be an effective, collaborative leader with proven experience in leading accomplished capital improvement projects. The incumbent will jump right into a number of active and diverse Capital Improvement Projects in various phases.
A highlight of some of the current projects include replacing the McBean Park Drive Bridge, enhancement of various City recreational parks and improvements to pedestrian, bicycle and Neighborhood Electric Vehicle routes. QUALIFICATIONS
The new City Engineer should be a collaborative leader and capable individual with impeccable people skills, excellent communication both written and verbal, and customer service oriented. The ideal candidate will have an accomplished background successfully leading capital improvement and construction projects.
Candidates must have the required licenses, education and experience to be considered for this position. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is to possess:
- The equivalent of ten years of increasingly responsible experience in public works, capital engineering or civil engineering, including at least five years in a supervisory or management capacity, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- A current California Professional Civil Engineer license is required. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid class C California driver’s license is required.
